Terry Fox Walk
Our Terry Fox Day was a great success. The students walked around our new track and listened to the school co-ordinator of the Terry Fox Foundation, Daisy Hamelinck, speak about Terry’s Marathon of Hope. Daisy showed students and staff scars from five operations on her leg. After visiting 20 doctors and specialists, Hamelinck was eventually diagnosed with osteosarcoma, the same bone cancer Terry Fox had in 1979. Thanks to medical advances in recent years, instead of amputating her leg, doctors were able to implant an endoprosthesis – a prosthetic inside her leg. She is living proof of the success of the Terry Fox Foundation. Her message really resonated with both staff and students. It was a remarkable day!

Monarch Butterfly Hatches from Chrysalis
Today our grade one students in Mrs. Foreman's class released their butterfly that hatched from its chrysalis this week. The students were very excited to watch their class pet fly high into the sky. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to learn about the life cycle of the monarch butterfly.

Holy Cross Welcomes Joe Sisco!
Today Holy Cross welcomed Joe Sisco, the board's e-learning teacher and Google Apps for Education Certified Trainer. Joe worked with the students in Mrs. Northcott's grade six class on the MyTools2Go program using the school's Chrome Books. MyToolsGo is the Google application utilized by the board to promote technology. There are many great applications through the MyTools2Go that the students can enjoy. The students were highly interested in Joe's presentation.

New JK/SK Classrooms
We are very grateful for the hard work of the Facility Services department at the Board in preparing our new JK/SK classes for the start of the school year. It was a very extensive renovation that required a lot of coordination and patience. In the end, Holy Cross now has 2 new classes to house some of our youngest Huskies. We look forward to starting the full-day kindergarten program for all of our kindergarten students at Holy Cross this year and feel that it will be a great opportunity for them to develop.

Welcome Back Huskies!
Holy Cross had a great start to the school year today. All of our parents and students were excited entering the building and that helped to create a wonderful atmosphere of energy and enthusiasm. We would like to thank all the parents for their assistance in helping to make today such a successful day. Even though it decided to rain today we did not let that deter a smooth start. It looks like it's going to be a great year!
